  • Dispur Residents Fed Up with Waterlogging Woes

Dispur, Guwahati:  Residents of the Wireless locality in Dispur are facing severe waterlogging issues, primarily due to recent modifications made to the drainage system of the nearby MLA hostel. The changes to the hostel's drainage infrastructure have disrupted the natural flow of water, leading to flooding in the surrounding areas. Local residents are expressing their discontent, accusing authorities of prioritizing the hostel's needs over those of the broader community. The Public Works Department (PWD) has acknowledged the problem and admitted that the changes were not well-planned. There are now calls for improved coordination and planning to prevent similar issues in the future. As the monsoon season progresses, residents of Wireless are urging authorities to take swift action to address the waterlogging problem and restore normalcy to their daily lives.

  • Guwahati's Paltan Bazar junction is facing significant traffic congestion

Guwahati's Paltan Bazar junction is facing significant traffic congestion  due to the construction of a new foot overbridge (FOB) near the police station and railway station. The bridge, while intended to improve pedestrian safety, has inadvertently created new challenges for vehicular traffic. The unplanned nature of the FOB has resulted in reduced road width and increased congestion.  The junction, already a busy intersection, has become even more congested as vehicles navigate the narrower roads and contend with the additional traffic flow caused by the FOB. This has led to longer wait times, increased fuel consumption, and heightened frustration among commuters. The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is currently working to address these issues  and redesign the junction to accommodate the new infrastructure. However, the task is complex and requires careful planning to ensure that the traffic flow remains smooth and efficient. The FOB was originally requested by traffic police  to alleviate pedestrian-related traffic jams. While the bridge has undoubtedly improved pedestrian safety, it has also introduced new challenges that must be carefully managed. The situation at Paltan Bazar junction highlights the importance of careful planning and coordination when implementing large-scale infrastructure projects.  It is essential to consider the potential impacts on traffic flow and pedestrian safety before proceeding with such developments.

  • Guwahati Couple Outraged by Neglect at Khanapara Veterinary College

Guwahati, Assam:  A harrowing experience faced by a Guwahati couple at the College of Veterinary Science in Khanapara has exposed a shocking level of neglect and incompetence at the institution. The couple, who took their elderly Labrador for treatment, were appalled by the lack of care and professionalism they encountered. From staff members who seemed more interested in lounging around than helping, to interns ill-equipped to handle medical emergencies, the couple's experience was a nightmare. Despite their dog's urgent need for assistance, the couple found themselves forced to fend for themselves, from locating a broken stretcher to navigating the chaotic hospital environment. Even when they managed to find a doctor, they were met with indifference and a lack of urgency. The couple's experience highlights a systemic failure at the veterinary college. The institution, which is supposed to be a sanctuary for animals, seems to have lost sight of its primary mission. The lack of basic equipment, coupled with the staff's apathy, raises serious questions about the management's commitment to animal welfare. It is imperative that the authorities investigate this matter and take immediate action to address the issues plaguing the Khanapara Veterinary College. Animals deserve better, and pet owners in Guwahati deserve a reliable and compassionate institution to care for their beloved companions.
