Guwahati, Assam: In a major crackdown on counterfeit currency, Assam Police have seized over 1,400 fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs 7.19 lakh. The operation took place on Thursday at an apartment in the Beharbari area of Guwahati.

The raid was conducted following the arrest of Jahidul Islam earlier in the day. Islam, who was apprehended in Paltan Bazar, provided crucial information that led police to the counterfeit currency stash.

During the raid, police arrested Kamal Bora and Jiyarul Haque from the apartment. In addition to the fake notes, authorities also seized two vehicles, cash, and cell phones.

This significant seizure follows a recent raid in Guwahati's Khanapara, where Sumi Borah and two others were arrested in connection with counterfeit currency activities.

The ongoing investigation into the fake currency racket is expected to shed light on the extent of the operation and identify any potential links to larger criminal networks.
